Buying a mattress is very import decision. When purchasing a memory foam mattress there is 5 questions you absolutely have to ask.
1)Does The Mattress Pass Fire Regulations?
The first thing you want to know is has the material in your memory foam mattress been tested to BS7177 fire safety standards? BS7177 is classified as being resistant to a medium hazard, which is suitable for all homes. Without the certification to prove that the materials in the mattress have passed the test for BS7177, the mattress could be classed as unsafe to sleep on.
2)What is the quality of the memory foam?
This is a great question because memory foam(also known as (Visco elastic foam)can differ greatly in quality - density, hardness or softness, response to temperature, and also in its durability. Because of the increase in demand for memory foam products, competition in the market has increased. There are many companies producing memory foam products. This benefits consumers because prices have come down. It has also lead to a lot of sub-standard products on the market and creation of other such as latex foam. Be sure to do you due dilliegenc in research.
When buying a memory foam mattress, be sure to check the density and thickness of the memory foam in the mattress. The density of a mattress is important. The density refers to how much memory foam there is in a square metre of mattress. The lower the density, in effect the less memory foam there actually is. A low density memory foam mattress will break down quicker than its higher density counterpart, and when a memory foam mattress begins to break down it will loose it’s shape and stop returning to its original form, meaning you will have to replace it.
3) What is density and thickness of the foam?
You must ask your supplier about the density of the foam. 60kg/m is pretty good quality density; and anything close to that number should be of good quality. If your supplier doesn’t state the density of the mattress, you proceed with caution.
The thickness of the memory foam is also important too. Generally speaking the more memory foam in the mattress the firmer the mattress will feel, be advised that a minimum of 5cm of memory is required in a mattress to get the full support qualities that memory foam offers.
4) Where is the memory foam from?
It is very important to know where your memory foam is manufactured. A lot of suppliers now import memory foam from overseas. The mattresses may appear to be made of good quality and the prices may seem reasonable but beware of this type of memory foam is usually of very poor quality and will only last a few years before the mattress starts to break down.
5) Is it guaranteed?
Be sure to ask is there a guarantee against any defects or problems. Be very cautious if your are not offered a guarantee. The retailer may be aware that the poor quality of the foam won’t last very long.
